Ix Chel is depicted here in her role as the Mayan Goddess of Childbirth.

Ix Chel was often said to be an old woman wearing a skirt with crossed bones, with a
serpent in her hand.

Her husband was the benevolent moon god Itzamna. Ix Chel's kinder side was as the
protector of weavers and women in childbirth.
